Professional Background
I’m an occupational therapist with a master’s degree in child development and certification in instructional technology. For more than 25 years, I’ve served as an Assistive Technology (AT) consultant in educational settings, collaborating with school teams to support students with a wide range of learning and access needs. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute at the state level by serving on several boards and committees, including the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL), the Michigan Alliance of School Physical and Occupational Therapists (MASPOT), and #TalkingAAC. These experiences continue to strengthen my commitment to advancing equitable, technology-forward solutions in education.
Passion for AAC
My passion for AAC/AT began in my senior year of high school. I spent a day shadowing an occupational therapist in a center-based classroom, and I was inspired by the dedication and passion the staff showed for their students. From then on, I knew I wanted to be part of a team to support this work. Since then, I’ve devoted my career to advocating for accessibility that supports students in achieving their goals.
Fun Fact
When I’m not diving into all things AT and AAC, I love to travel. My husband is the travel planner in our family, and I go along happily for the ride and am always up for just about anything! Together, we’ve explored 25 countries (and counting) and passed the travel bug on to our two kids. Nothing makes me happier than when all four of us travel together. I also love a good day hike—especially when it ends with a hot shower, delicious meal, and a cozy bed. Watch out, Bulgaria—the Baads are headed your way next summer!
