Professional Background
I am an Assistive Technology Consultant with Livingston Educational Service Agency. My background is in Occupational Therapy and I am a RESNA certified ATP. My career has given me opportunities from Early Intervention and K-12 classrooms to seating clinics and homes. Through these experiences - I’ve seen firsthand that the best solutions aren't found in a vacuum but through a transdisciplinary approach. As an AT Consultant, I’m always eager to join in team conversations with others to think globally for communication, education, and access solutions.
Passion for AAC
I often joke that I got my start as an Occupational Therapist in the “late 1900s.” But this time has given a sense of awe for the tremendous gains we collectively have in shifts of mindsets, access to information, and technology advancements. I’ve watched the shift from viewing AAC as an expensive "last resort" to recognizing it as a widely available tool, accessible through many avenues and resources - making ongoing awareness and advocacy key.
I have a passion for finding access solutions for individuals with complex motor challenges. I believe that not only do all deserve access to communication but there is also a method to make that a reality. I spent time in research, problem-solving, and tinkering (aka MacGyvering) so programming, mounting, and access solutions can be realized. Most recently, I have been leveraging AI to co-create code to use open source CAD software for creating files for 3D printed and acrylic cut AAC keyguards to maximize AAC independence for students.
Fun Fact
I love walking, biking, kayaking, and stand up paddle boarding across the seasons. My joy of nature spills over to home decor, including a favorite watercolor of a Donkey we’ve named Delores. I also have an ever-growing collection of selfies with animals featuring goats, praying mantises, a bullfrog, and more!
I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we have two adult children; one works in research for Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor and the other is an Environmental Scientist in Dublin, Ireland. Having adult children is amazing! Maybe someday they will come to collect their houseplants and the cat.
